Winning - August 2019

The Trump Presidential Seal
Keeping track of the GOP and Trump Administration:
  • Trump's trade talks with China are going so well that he plans to impose tariffs on an additional $300 of Chinese goods on September 1st.
  • 08/02 - Either John Ratcliffe withdrew of Trump dumped him as nominee for Director of National Intelligence. Another stellar example of the Trump administration's vetting and solid personnel choices.
  • 08/06 - Trump still owes El Paso over $500K from his last visit which was a campaign rally.
  • There appear to be some cracks in the once full-fledged Trump/Fox romance. Anything less than full idolatry is akin to treason to Trump.
  • 08/08 - Sue Gordon, Deputy Director of National Intelligence resigns. More turmoil in the intelligence community.
  • John Huntsman is resigning as Ambassador to Russia.
  • 08/13 -Trump delays some of the China tariffs until 12/15. Somebody apparently told him his original 09/01 deadline would affect holiday shopping. I thought Trump said China was paying the tariffs.
  • 08/13 - A coalition of 29 states sue the Trump administration over rollback of restrictions on coal-burning power plants.
  • 08/14 - The US Treasury bond market enters an inverted yield curve. A usually reliable indicator of an impending recession.
  • 08/19 - Hugh J. Hurwitz, the acting head of the Bureau of Prisons, is removed. He apparently is the scapegoat for the Epstein suicide.
  • 08/23 - China adds tariffs to $75 billion of American goods. Trump's trade war is going great.
    • Trump responds by saying he'll raise many tariffs on Chinese goods from 25% to 30% and from 10% to 15%. Trade wars are easy.
  • 08/28 - Retired Marine general and former Secretary of Defense James Mattis criticizes Trump for divisive tribalism and driving away allies.
  • 08/30 - Madeleine Westerhout, Trump's personal assistant, steps down or is fired after she shared Oval Office and Trump family details with the press.
